Good morning world. It’s been quite a while since I’ve sat to write and today is the day to get back to it. Many of you are not aware that I have recently moved. Yes I’m no longer in New England but instead we moved 1000 miles away to warm Georgia. Many ask why we moved so today I’ll share a little about our journey here.
First my husband and I have always desired to move to warmer weather. Neither of us do any winter sports and I feel like a hermit most of the winter months. For those that know the cold I’m speaking of that can be a looooooong time. My favorite time of the year is summer. I love all things about summer such as swimming, beaches, long walks in the warmth, windows down, everything green, flowers and yes the heat. Also, I had lived for a year in Hawaii so when I think of that I miss having the ability to go out all year and doing outdoor activities.
Because of our desire to move my husband had applied to jobs in the south a few different times. Honestly we have been praying for this move for 5 years with no success. We had doors closed on what we thought would be perfect opportunities. Needless to say God knew from the beginning that timing is everything and that is exactly what this was; God’s timing. When God is ready to move you doors open and things go better than you ever imagined. In fact you will feel as if your on a ride with my control because God is in control and your just along for the ride.
So let me share how God moved us to the South. As I mentioned before my husband had applied for jobs previously and although he was perfectly capable and qualified, either they decided to not fill the position or they hired locally (nothing ever seemed to pan out). It seemed as if we would never move. In fact this past year the Lord put the word contentment on my heart. In my heart I was no longer content where we were. I wanted to move. I no longer wanted to be on a private road; I desired to have paved roads, side-walks and street lights. I realize for most people that is the norm today but not for me. Yet the word contentment was so heard in my heart that I resigned that I would be happy where I was and stop desiring to move. Honestly I changed my perspective.
Now comes the exciting and crazy part. Now we knew we could move but we had to delay because I had made commitments and did not feel I should back out. We decided to finish out our school year in NH. This also gave us time to finish up our projects that had not been completed and make our home ready to go on the market. We used an amazing realtor that came in with a punch list and we heeded her advise. It was a long few months preparing but it was so worth it. By the time we were ready to put the house on the market it looked great and honestly I was sad it took moving to do all the projects we had long needed to finish.
So I changed some things in my home and I really was loving my home with those changes. This past year was hard having lost my mom but I was working to be content. That is when one of my husbands co-workers asked him if he had ever asked his boss about doing his same job down in the Georgia office. This thought had never occurred to either of us prior to that point. Honestly I was happy where we were and had committed to tutoring for a year with my oldest child’s class. Crazy thing is when my husband asked we were both amazed to hear that his boss thought it was a great idea. Wow.
Now having never been to Georgia myself we came down for a long weekend to look at houses and get a feel for the area. This all happened before our house was officially on the market. We looked at 16 homes in the course of 2 days and trying to keep them all straight was a challenge. By day 2 we started to name the homes. By the end of the weekend we had found a few homes we liked but knowing our house wasn’t on the market till the following week we didn’t expect any of these homes would still be available when we were ready to make an offer. So we went home ready to put ours on the market and see what happened.
The first weekend our house was on the market we had an offer for the full asking price but there was a catch that they wanted to close in 1 month. We had not anticipated that and we had 2 months left to our commitments. When God is involved things move quickly. So we accepted the offer and put an offer on one of the homes we had seen and was amazed was still available. They too accepted our quick move timeframe and now to pack up and figure out what we would do for a month without a house. After doing some quick searches we were overwhelmed with the price to rent something for a month. God had something else planned. I asked some friends and one of them happened to have a camper that we could all fit in and she was willing to let us use it. My step-dad was willing to let us place the camper at his place. Wow, yet again everything was falling into place.
So in one month we sold our home of over 15 year, bought a new home in Georgia, and moved into a camper at my step-dads. When God moves you better hold on because you are going for a ride. I’ll share more about our time in the camper as that is a story in itself and the travel down. For now know we are finally here settling in and ready to see what God has planned.
