What are you considering in your heart? Maybe you are considering a word given to you by a doctor or a family member or friend. Maybe your considering the circumstances that you are in right now. Maybe you are considering a word or a promise you read in God’s word.
We are daily considering things such as what we will do that day or what we will eat. Often these do not seem like big decision to consider but we are considering and thinking upon them even if it is for a brief time.
In scripture we see God’s people considering what God has spoken to them or the situations that they have been placed in. Look at Sarah, Abraham, and Paul:
Consider Sarah
By faith Sarah herself received power to conceive, even when she was past the age, since she considered him faithful who had promised.
Hebrew 11:11 ESV
Sarah did not consider that she was old and far beyond the years to conceive a child, no less able to bare a child in her old age. Instead of considering those facts and that in the natural this was impossible she considered God! She considered that God was faithful to her and was able to fulfill the promise He had spoken.
Consider Abraham
He (Abraham) considered that God was able even to raise him from the dead, from which, figuratively speaking, he did receive him back.
Hebrews 11:19 ESV
Abraham was following God’s word to sacrifice his own son. He could have been considering the death of his son and the loss. He could have considered why or how God could ask this from him. However instead of considering and thinking on those things he was considered the impossible in that God could even raise his son back to life. He considered the promise that God had spoken about this child and spoke his faith to the servants, “Stay here with the donkey; the lad and I will go yonder and worship, and we will come back to you.” (Gen 22:5 NKJV) Abraham was considering coming back with his son and spoke what was in his heart.
Consider Paul
But whatever gain I (Paul) had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith– … Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 3:7-9; 12-14 ESV
Paul did not consider his past and what he had done or the knowledge he had prior to knowing Christ. He did not consider all the things he had done for Christ to date. He did not consider the sufferings. No, instead he continued to consider the things that needed to be done and the prize and goal ahead of him, the calling that God had on his life.
Consider What You are Considering
Again I ask what are you considering? Are you considering the facts about your situation? Or do you consider as Sarah did that God is able to fulfill the promises that He has spoken over you? Are you considering God is able to do the impossible? Or are you considering you past and your failures? Or are you considering the purpose and calling on your life?
God desires for us to be looking forward. “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old.” (Isaiah 43:18 ESV) You have been made a new creation, His beloved, His child. His desire for you is good things but you have the choice what you will consider, what you will spend your time thinking on.
And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Matthew 6:28-30
God wants us to place our trust in Him because He love us and wants to take care of us. God wants our faith to be in Him and Him alone.
Consider God’s Promises
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
2 Corinthians 1:20
What has God promised you? Throughout God’s word we can find promises. He promises to “never leave us nor forsake us” (Deut. 31:6.) He promises to love us with an “everlasting love.” (Jer. 31:3.) He promises forgiveness, redemption, blessings and favor. He has promises for YOU! But you must “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matt 6:33 NKJV.) Seek out God’s kingdom by reading and considering the promises He has for you today. He is faithful to His promises but we must seek them out and hide them in our hearts.
I pray as you discover God’s promises for yourself; you will praise Him and shout ‘Amen’. I pray as you read and see ALL the promises in His word that you would be encouraged as Paul to continue to press forward not looking behind or at the situations that are pressing in. Instead I pray you would consider only God’s promises for your life and you will speak them over yourself.
None of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
Acts 20:24 NKJV
God has a plan for you life and I believe with all my heart that it is good and it is to give you a hope and a future. (Jer. 29:11.) Seek out those promises and continue to consider them and watch what God will do in your life. He is a good Father and desire good things for His children.
