Today after devotions I prayed over our day and week. I thanked the Lord for all the rain and asked that He would water my life and my families life as well. I asked that we would be full of Him so that we could go and fulfill what we have been called to. I prayed for my family to grow and flourish and bear much fruit.
After my prayer I got to really thinking about what I had asked. I love the image of nature and how God makes all things new. As we get the rain, as well as thunder and lightening, I’m reminded of what He desires to do with us. God wants to pour over us His love and mercies. He wants to shower us with His word and His promises. Yet sometimes we may feel as if instead of being in the rain we are in a barren desert. Barrenness I don’t believe is His desire for us at all. He wants us to be immersed into the Word. If I have to be honest I have not felt that immersion lately and I’m missing it. I desire it and I think my soul was crying out in prayer this morning. I have been walking in the dessert like the Israelite’s had done thousands of years ago and I’ve been looking for water.
I’m sure I’m not much different from others. Maybe you too have been isolated and alone. Maybe you feel as if you can’t find water and you are so thirsty for a drink. What I was reminded today is how much the immersion into His word is so important. Recently I’ve been spending more time in my devotions. I’m not going through the motions like I have over the last month or so. Instead I have the hunger back to learn and grow. Grow. Yes, that is what I’m ready for. I’m ready for some new growth.
Here is what I’m thinking. Similar to many plants they all go through a dormant season. Usually it’s during the dead of winter. Think of the work it takes an apple tree to produce not just one apple but many. First it must have deep roots so when the wind comes it doesn’t blow it over. Next it needs to have food, good food to give it nutrients to grow tall and strong. Then comes the rain that will continue to come over and over again. Finally, it will need the sun to shine on it and help it’s leaves to turn green and eventually to produce fruit.
Similar to a plant, I feel like I too have gone through my dormant season and I’m ready for spring and the new growth. Bring on the rain. Bring on the water that will wash over me. Bring on the growth and new shoots that will start to emerge. I’m ready to stretch my roots so the next storm doesn’t blow me down again. I’m ready. Are you?
- Are you ready to break free from the isolation that you may be in?
- Are you ready to be immersed in what God has planned for you and your life?
- Are you ready for growth after a season of being dormant?
Daylight is coming and so is the rain. Let it rain down on you. Let the rain wash away your hurts and your past. Let the rain bring you healing and comfort. Let the rain prepare you for a mighty harvest.
Yet, like all things you have to choose if you want to be rained on or hide away. Do you want to stay in isolation or come out and be used for His kingdom? Nobody says the labor ahead will be easy but when we get to the end of the season, the harvest will be great I can assure you. So I invite you to let the rain pour over you, let you roots get deeper into who Jesus is and what He is showing you in His word. The work starts today by getting into His word. You will be amazed what you will find when you allow Him to wash over you continually. I encourage you get connected with others that are growing. Even apple trees need to have each other for pollination and so do you. Let’s grow an orchard of those ready to grow and lets see how much fruit we can all produce when we work together.
God bless my friends.
