Today I’m starting a new journey of journaling with you, the reader, as I work my way through scripture. These are just some of my thoughts and/or revelations as I read through God’s word. So encourage you to grab your bible and enjoy this time with me in God’s word.
Today’s reading is in Romans 8. In verse 15 it declares “For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8 starts out telling believer that they are no longer condemned. That is so powerful but yet if we are no longer condemned what does that mean?
Thankfully, the best part about us accepting Christ into our lives and asking for the Holy Spirit; believers are no longer bound to fear. Fear, unfortunately, is rampant in our world today. Here it indicates we did not receive the spirt of bondage again to fear. First that means we were once held by fear. If we are set free, we were once held captive. Fear holds us prisoners to a life of death. But God, amen. Because of Jesus, we have received the Spirit of adoption. We are no longer prisoners, instead have been adopted into our Heavenly Fathers kingdom. He is our Daddy now and He wants good things for us.
Further down in Romans 8:18, it talks about our sufferings of this present time. I’m sure many would say as a church body we are suffering because of this pandemic, political unrest, rioting and looting that is occurring throughout the nation. But God. I love this verse because it says we cannot compare the suffering of this present time with the glory which shall be revealed in us. In us….. That is interesting to think that the glory shall (will be) revealed IN US.
I had to look up the word for suffering and it’s the word pathema meaning hardship or pain; subjectively, an emotion or influence; affection, affliction, motion, suffering. This reminds me that even though we are in this world and will walk through trials and afflictions. We will go through hard times like this very moment for some.
Keep reading down to verse 25 which states, ‘But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.’ Ahhhhh hope. Yes, we hope for what we do not see, while eagerly waiting. What are you waiting for? Where is our hope during this time? We need to wait with perseverance, patience. For we are to have faith as it mentions in Hebrews 11:1, ‘Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. ‘ Be patient and keep the faith. God will show His glory in us, to those around us. ~ Amen
*If your reading this and you haven’t already asked Jesus into your heart I encourage you to do that right now. Jesus came to set you free from the lies and schemes of the enemy. The word says, “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 It truly is a simple as that. Pray out loud that Jesus came and died for you, on the third day he raised up and now sits at the right hand of our Father (who created you and called you precious). When you pray and believe this in your heart you are now saved. Praise God the angels in heaven are singing and dancing for you right now.
