This week has been the first week where my kids can enjoy going outside to play in the snow. The first snowfall is always a treat for all kids and mine are no different. Our school week even has looked a little different. Yesterday, the kids went out to play first thing in the morning instead of starting school. School started after lunch. Today with more snowing continuing to fall as we woke up, we did school till lunch and they have been outside ever since.
I have to say as much as I’m not a cold weather fan I love the look of the freshly fallen snow. I especially love early morning snow fall as the sun shines through the tree branches and you can see the shimmering off the snow before the sun warms it enough to fall off. Yes, I love the purity of it all. The freshness that reminds me of what God has done for us. In Psalms 51 it says, “Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.” This psalm is a song of repentance. I’m so grateful that we serve a God that accepts our repentance and washes away our sins.
The thing I love most of all is He washes us or covers us, making us pure like snow. He doesn’t miss a spot and I love that even the heat from the enemy can’t melt what Jesus has done for us. He may try to show us what was covered (what we used to be like), but we must be reminded that Jesus has taken it from us. I’ve been reading the book of John with my kids and we have just the last chapter left and we have talked through the horrific things Jesus went through and why. We have discussed how God let it happen and that He foresaw what was to come of His son. He allowed His son to die, to take all of our sins and sickness upon Him so that we wouldn’t have too.
Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions,He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,And by His stripes we are healed. Isiah 53:4-5
