Yesterday I shared a key from the reading in Deuteronomy 24. If you did not read yesterdays post you can click on the link for the blog here:https://www.1daytothenext.com/?p=2609 Today I want to share the second key that I saw while reading over this passage. Below is the verse referenced yesterday as I will refer to it again:
‘You shall not pervert justice due the stranger or the fatherless, nor take a widow’s garment as a pledge. But you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and the Lord your God redeemed you from there; therefore I command you to do this thing. “When you reap your harvest in your field, and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. When you beat your olive trees, you shall not go over the boughs again; it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward; it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this thing.’
Deuteronomy 24:17-22
Remember Where You Came From
In this passage, in addition to taking care of others, I saw that God did not want them to forget where they came from. There is humility in knowing where you come from and where you are today. Often people do not want to remember and when they come into the place where God brings them, they become proud and can look down at people. Many of us have seen this happen and yet that is not what God wants from us. We are to remember where we came from and share as a testimony of who God is in our lives. God brings us out of bondage, frees us from our sins, but we should not forget His goodness. Instead, we share our testimony with others so they can hear of how good He is.
God reminded them to remember that they were once slaves. He never intended for them to go back to where they were. Why would God take you out from something just to bring you back? That is never His intent. Instead, He wants you to be reminded of what you left behind so you can realize how good it is in the land that He has brought you into. For some that could be freedom from addiction, and that will lead to life to the fullest. God doesn’t want you to forget where you came from because He deserves all the glory for where you are today. Instead, He wants you to share that testimony of His faithfulness in seeking you and finding you when you were a slave to that addiction but know you are free in Christ.
Now remembering where we were does not mean constantly living in the past and not having our focus on what is ahead of us. This is a trap that can happen to some and in fact it did happen to the children as they murmured and complained during the journey to get to where God was taking them. We must remember that God is taking us to somewhere far greater than what we have left behind. However, it will take a step of faith on your part in order to receive the blessing of forgiveness as well as the abundance of life that is for you.
So, I want to ask are you ready to step into the blessings that God has for you? You will be asked to remember where you came from in order to share your testimony of His goodness, but that is the greatest blessing, our testimony. Our testimony will give hope to other and we will continue to go from glory to glory. I promise that where you’re going is far greater than what you have or will leave behind. Trust Him that He wants what is best for you.
