Have you ever doubted God because of something that has happened around you. Maybe you were praying for something such as a healing, a job, a spouse being unfaithful, a child that has gone astray, or a friend or family member that needs to get clean whether it is from drugs, alcohol, or any number of addictions.
I have to say that my faith in God’s healing has been rocked with everything that went on with my mom. I haven’t shared this part of my story because I knew I needed to do something about it because I know that God is a God that heals. However, I knew I needed to do something to restore my faith in that. Over the past few months I have been in the word again regarding healing. I’ve been listening to healing testimonies and my faith has been restored. This past week however one of the things I noticed in a couple of the testimonies was that the spouse of the person that was in the hospital, which in both cases I heard was unconscious, did not let anyone into the room to speak negative or doubt over their spouse. In fact they were bold enough to tell even the doctors and nurses that if they had any bad news they could talk out in the hall ant not in front of their spouse. They were thought to be crazy as they stated over and over that Jesus had healed their spouse and a miracle was going to take place.
Over the weekend I was sharing this interesting idea with some friends and the thought struck me of the little girl that had died and everyone in the room was weeping and mourning her death. Before Jesus woke her up He was ridiculed, because He had said she wasn’t dead but sleeping. He then sent everyone from the room before telling her to arise . (Luke 8:51-56; Matt 9:23-26) Wow. He spoke, they laughed, He asked them to leave, then He told the girl to rise.
As I was thinking about this more today because I can’t get the thought out of my head I was thinking again about the only place where Jesus wasn’t able to do many miracles; his hometown. He was the boy they all watched growing up, the carpenters son, the son of Mary and brother of James. (Matt 13:57) He wasn’t anyone special. Was He? Yes, He was but unfortunately they missed it because of their unbelief. Because of their unbelief He wasn’t able to do many mighty works as were done everywhere else.
I have thought about healing so much over the past three years, and I’ve come to realize it’s not all about just what I believe. Other people, especially those you are praying for need to not be in unbelief. James 1 talks about a double-minded man being unstable. This is something I know that my mom struggled with. I know because she would call often to be encouraged in His word and yet the doubt would always slip back in and she would call a few days later for the same encouragement. I knew then and I know now that others thought I was crazy and yet finally I feel encouraged by that. I feel that I can understand some of the ridicule that Jesus had received. Even though the result was not as I would have liked, I wonder who Jesus may have prayed for in His hometown with no results.
- Have you ever wondered who Jesus wanted to heal or He wanted saved; yet they instead doubted and ridiculed Him?
- Have you prayed for something that others scoffed at?
- Do you have family or friends that doubt or are filled with unbelief?
My friends if you are in this category be encouraged to know you are not alone. Not only that but you are in good company. I believe Jesus can relate to what you are going thru. I’ve learned along the way to be bolder, yet I’ve also learned I have more to teach, not just praying for others. If you know the Word, teach it to others so that they have the Word to live by; not just a prayer. We need to stand on the Word in times of trials and if you don’t already know what God says about a particular subject, start now.
I started with a word study on healing and what it revealed was amazing. Jesus healed over and over again. He also taught using parables and stories. We have many testimonies and stories that need to be shared. Share your story and share the word. Be bold and don’t let anyone cause unbelief.
