Reading: 1 Chronicles 29
Today as I read all I could think is the willingness to give into the temple of the Lord. David himself gave an abundance. He didn’t just give a little and think that was good. No, David gave above and beyond. He set an example and shared with the people what he was giving. His leaders followed and gave as well. It’s interesting I don’t know how many leaders today would give like that, but we know our president has not taken a dime of salary to deal with all he has dealt with. Instead President Trump has given away his salary to different charities. I cannot compare him to David because David gave everything to God. However, the example of what our president has done hopefully has made an impact on others watching. I know it has for me.
However, David had a revelation in regard to giving that many do not have. I have to say for many years I myself did not know or understand this either. Over the past few years I have been receiving a better understanding that everything I have is God’s and from God. Why would I not want to sow back to Him what has been freely given to me.
“Blessed are You, Lord God of Israel, our Father, forever and ever.
1 Chronicles 29:10-12
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness,
The power and the glory,
The victory and the majesty;
For all that is in heaven and in earth is Yours;
Yours is the kingdom, O Lord,
And You are exalted as head over all.
Both riches and honor come from You,
And You reign over all.
In Your hand is power and might;
In Your hand it is to make great
And to give strength to all.
David also understood that everything in heaven and on earth belongs to the Lord. Do you realize that? Everything. Not one thing that you have right now is truly yours. It all belongs to God. He has given you your gifts and abilities to make wealth. He is the head over all things in our life and if He is not, I pray that you would take some time to think on these things. He is the one that created the heavens and the earth, as well each one of us.
“For You formed my inward parts;You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works,And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret,And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.”
Psalm 139-12-16
God formed us in our mother’s womb, and He has known all about us, even before we were created. This verse alone has helped me through the years to understand that God had a plan even when my parents did not. God has a perfect plan and purpose for all of His children. Do you believe that? I sure hope you do. Jeremiah 29:11 states, “For I know the thoughts I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” I’m so grateful to be living in such a time as this because God has planned to give us all a future and a hope. He will not leave us nor forsake us. He has placed us here for His perfect plan and purpose.
My prayer is that you would come to have a relationship with our maker. That you would have an understanding that everything we have is His and from Him. I pray that you would be able to follow David’s example and give back to God. I pray if you do not already give that you would make that a priority. If you are a giver, I pray that you are giving abundantly as David did. God will reward those that give to Him. Amen.
